Patent Development Report on 6G Communication Technology: China ranks first globally in patent applications in this area

The Intellectual Property Development Research Center of CNIPA released the Patent Development Report on 6G Communication Technology.

The study found that the number of global patent applications in the field of 6G communication technology exceeded 38,000, and China's contribution rate behind the rapid growth of applications exceeded 30%. The data shows that the total number of global patent applications in the field of 6G communication technology is currently more than 38,000. In the past two decades, the number of global patent applications has shown an overall upward trend. Especially after 2011, the annual number of patent applications related to 6G communication technology has increased significantly. Speed is significantly improved. China is the main source country for patent applications for 6G communication technology, with patent applications accounting for 35% of the total (more than 13,000), ranking first in the world.

Judging from the application trends of major countries and regions in the world, the patent applications of the United States, Europe, and Japan remained stable and the trend is relatively flat. However, since 2009, the number of patent applications in China has increased rapidly, significantly surpassing the United States, Europe, and Japan. South Korea and other countries and regions have the largest contribution rate in global patent applications.

Foreign companies are at the forefront of the global 6G communication technology innovation, and China’s main forces for 6G innovation are universities and scientific research institutions. Among the top ten applicants in the world for patent applications, there are 3 applicants in each of Japan, the United States and South Korea, namely, NEC Corporation of Japan, Daewoo Communications Corporation of South Korea, Mitsubishi Electronics Corporation of Japan, Korea Telecommunications Research Institute, Samsung Electronics of South Korea, and the United States. Sri Lanka Network Systems, NTT of Japan, Qualcomm and Satellite Communications. University of Electronic Science and Technology of China ranked eighth in the world for patent applications in this regard. From the perspective of Chinese patent applications, domestic universities and scientific research institutions take the top ten places of 6G communication technology patent applications. Universities and scientific research institutions lead the basic research and development of 6G communication technology and are the main force for 6G communication technology innovation.
