Recently, the China National Intellectual Property Administration released the "2023 China Patent Survey Report." The data indicate that the effectiveness of patent conversion and application in China is steadily improving, innovation through industry-academia-research collaboration is showing significant results, and the level of intellectual property protection continues to rise.

Further improvement in the industrialization rate of China's invention patents.

In 2023, the industrialization rate of invention patents in China reached 39.6%, up 2.9 percentage points from the previous year, marking a steady increase over five consecutive years. As the main innovators, Chinese enterprises saw their invention patent industrialization rate increase to 51.3%, up by 3.2 percentage points. Looking at enterprise sizes, the industrialization rates for large, medium, small, and micro enterprises were 51.0%, 57.9%, 53.9%, and 33.8% respectively, all showing improvements from the previous year.

Industry-academia-research collaboration effectively enhances patent conversion effectiveness.

In 2023, the average industrialization revenue from enterprise industry-academia-research invention patents in China reached 10.332 million yuan per patent, 24.5% higher than the average revenue from enterprise invention patents (8.296 million yuan). The survey also revealed that the highest proportion of enterprises solving critical technology or core component challenges through industry-academia-research collaboration was 56.1%, indicating that such cooperation plays a crucial role in tackling key core technologies.

Continuous improvement in China's intellectual property protection conditions.

In 2023, 6.7% of Chinese patent holders experienced patent infringement, a decrease of 1.0 percentage point from the previous year. In cases involving enterprises in patent infringement litigation, the proportion of cases where courts awarded compensation, mediated, or settled out of court for amounts exceeding 5 million yuan was 8.4%, up by 1.4 percentage points from the previous year, indicating that the cost of committing intellectual property infringement in China is steadily increasing.

The intellectual property talent pool in enterprises continues to grow.

In 2023, 61.3% of Chinese enterprise patent holders had dedicated intellectual property management personnel, 78.3% had part-time intellectual property managers, and only 8.6% of enterprise patent holders lacked dedicated or part-time intellectual property managers.
