The CNIPA released the Statistical Analysis Report on Green and Low-carbon Patents

The Statistical Analysis Report on Green and Low-carbon Patents recently released by the CNIPA shows that 193,000 green low carbon patent applications were published globally in 2023, with a year-on-year growth rate of 13%, reaching a double-digit growth for the first time, and hitting a new high since 2017. The number of patent grants was 95,000, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.2%.


In terms of the number of green and low-carbon patent applications published, in 2023, LG Group of South Korea won the first place for seven consecutive years with 7,691 published filings; China’s CATL entered the top ten in 2021 and steadily rose to 2nd place with 5,738 published filings in 2023. Following them are State Grid Corporation of China (5569), China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (2285), and Panasonic Corporation of Japan (2250).


From 2016 to 2023, the total number of green and low-carbon patent applications published globally has reached 1.276 million, with an average annual growth rate of 4.7%. The total number of patent grants is 649,000, with an average annual growth rate of 4.8%. The number of green and low-carbon international patent families originating from Japanese applicants ranks the first (27,000, accounting for 24.3%), followed by China (18,000, accounting for 16.0%), the United States (17000, accounting for 15.5%), South Korea (14,000, accounting for 12.5%), and Germany (10,000, accounting for 9.3%).
